James asks…

Can the S-Video out from a video card connect to a normal RCA video imput on a tv?

I am looking to install a small computer into my computer to play music through the system. I have an old 7″ tv in my dash that only has the normal yellow RCA imput for video… I have a video card with an s-video out, i was wondering if there is some sort of converter that would allow me to hook it up with some quality (I will be boosting the contrast and using large font, I dont expect perfect quality

admin answers:

Ditto IronManIngellis. Depending on the TV, even your large font may not help. Most of those little monitors (especially one with only a composite video input) have such low resolutions that you will probably have to design your own interface to make it usable. To test, set your current monitor to the same resolution as your little TV to see what it’s going to look like.

Morrowind Installation problem?

I decided to play Morrowind again recently, only now, I’m playing it on a notebook laptop. This means I have no disc drive. So rather than buying a portable one, I used my Morrowind GOTY disc, and another computer, to make an ISO, and then run it on my laptop.

When I try to play it gives me this error: Font file not found: Data FilesFontsmagic_cards_regular.fnt

There’s no problem with the .INI file. I know that much. The problem is that in the Data Files folder, half of the folders are missing. I only see Video and Sound (as well as all the .esm, and .bsa files). So no Meshes, or Textures, or Fonts folders.

You may then think that I should re-install the whole thing, and start again. However, no matter what I do, I cannot reinstall it. It just won’t let me. I have deleted everything related to morrowind on my hard drive, but I cannot reinstall. When I click on the Morrowind Launcher, it takes me to the screen where you can click on Install for each of the main game and the expansions, as usual, but it just says Play and Read Me for the Main File.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Let me know if I missed out any important info.
–It is definitely compatible. I know that much.

–The point is, there are no folders at all to drag files into.

admin answers:

Unfortunately with morrowind game of the year the meshes don’t show up for the bloodmoon expansion, you have to drag and drop them into the correct folders.im not sure if you need to do this with both expansions or not but you can check out this site and see if there is any info to help or check out a morrowind forum and im sure there will be some thing there on how to do this.hope this helps.good luck.

Does anyone else have screen size issues with Windows 7?

Since I have installed Windows 7, I have tried to play Yahoo Pinochle. My problem is that the screen is so large that I am unable to chat, or see the names and ratings of people who join. I have changed the font to 9, that did not work. I have maneuvered the card room screen up, changed the game room size window size from 800 x 600 to 640 x 840, hid the gray bar on the bottom of my computer and still no change. Any other suggestions?

admin answers:

Right click a blank part of the desktop, choose ‘screen resolution’ from the menu that opens up. Make sure that it’s set to the full resolution of your display.

The only screen size problem that I have with Windows 7 is with Windows Media Center. I can’t believe that they’re so stupid as to have it offer display aspect ratios of 4:3 and 16:9 but not consider that there are millions of monitors with an aspect ratio of 16:10. Whenever I watch TV I have to set the zoom to get the picture in proportion.

Susan asks…

This is a math paper I need to know what kind of logic is used?

WHAT kind of logic is used!!!!!1
Logic Application
Necessary Background
The following project uses the game of Guess Your Card. This is a game in which each player draws (without looking) three cards. Each card has a number between 1 and 9 on it. The players then place their cards on their heads so that everyone but themselves can see the cards.
The object of the game is to guess what cards you have. The first person to do this correctly wins.
During the play, each player, in turn, draws a question at random from a stack of questions. The player then answers the question based on the cards that they see (not their own cards, which they cannot see).
An Example
•Andy has the cards 6, 6, & 7
•Belle has the cards 3, 6, & 7
•Carol has the cards 1, 1, & 9
•Dan has the cards 3, 4, & 8
Andy draws the question card, “How many 7s do you see?” He answers, “one,” because he cannot see the 7 on his own head; he sees only the 7 on Belle’s head.
Next Belle draws the question card, “Of the four even numbers, how many different even numbers do you see?” She answers, “Three,” because she sees the 4, 6, and 8 on Andy and Dan’s head.
From this, Dan can conclude he has two even cards, since he can only see a 6 and Belle sees two more.
Situation
You are playing Guess Your Card with three other players. Here is what you see:
•Andy has the cards 1, 3, & 7
•Belle has the cards 3, 4, & 7
•Carol has the cards 4, 6, & 8
Andy draws the question card, “Do you see two or more players whose cards sum to the same value?” He answers, “`yes.”
Next Belle draws the question card, “Of the five odd numbers, how many different
Odd numbers do you see?” She answers “All of them.”
Andy suddenly speaks up. “I know what I have,” he says. “I have a one, a three, and a seven.”
The Questions
1. What cards do you have?
In answering this question, you must write a neat and professional report. You need to briefly summarize the salient facts of the problem, explain your strategy for solving the problem, explain why your strategy will work, execute your strategy, show your mathematical working, draw conclusions from your working, and finally present your answer with a brief summery of why it is your conclusion.
2. Remember, your strategy is to use more than logic. What kind of logic will you use?
The format of the report is to be as follows:
•Typed, 1 to 3 page report, double spaced, Times New Roman font (size 12), one inch margins on all sides, APA format.
•In addition to the 1 to 3 pages required, a title page is to be included. The title page is to contain the title of the assignment, your name, the instructor’s name, the course title, and the date. Include the Grading Procedure page in your report.
•Neatness and professionalism of presentation:
◦Text should be legible on white paper with black ink.
◦Pages should be stapled, without frilly edges, of regular size (81/2 × 11), and un-crumpled.
◦Use sentences and paragraphs appropriately.
◦Text should be free of typos and spelling mistakes.
◦Presentation should include an opening statement describing what you intend to present and a conclusion wrapping up the presentation.

admin answers:

I’m at a loss why you bothered to include the format of the answer (1 to 3 page report, double spaces, Times New Roman, size 12, …) since we cannot (and would not) do all of this for you.

What we can do is show you the logic used to find answer.

Also, I’m not sure what is meant by “your strategy is to use more than logic”
Logic is all you really need to solve.

====================

Andy draws the question card, “Do you see two or more players whose cards sum to the same value?” He answers, “`yes.”

Sum of Belle’s cards = 3 + 4 + 7 = 14
Sum of Carol’s cards = 4 + 6 + 8 = 18

Since these have different sums, but Andy sees at least two players whose cards have the same sum, then your cards must add up to either 14 or 18

——————–

Next Belle draws the question card, “Of the five odd numbers, how many different
Odd numbers do you see?” She answers “All of them.”

The only odd cards that Belle sees from Andy and Carol are 1, 3, 7

So you must have 5 and 9

——————–

5 + 9 = 14

You know that sum of your cards = 14 or 18
Since 5 + 9 = 14, and smallest card is 1, then your cards must add to more than 14
Sum of your cards = 18

Third card = 18 – 9 – 5 = 4

Your cards: 4, 5, 9

====================

You can also see why Andy knew what cards he had. He realized that the only odd numbers Belle could see from Carol and you were 5 and 9, and yet she claimed she could see all five odd numbers. So the remaining three: 1, 3, 7 must have come from Andy himself. That’s how he figured out what he had.

Betty asks…

Writing a novel, need a little help?

Alright, well i’m having trouble putting time skips in my novel. They’re small time skips, I’ve already had one that took place over a week, the next one I just want to skip three days. The reason i’m putting these time skips in my novel is because there are so many big events that need to be included, it wouldn’t be sensible to have them happening back to back like a supersonic line of dominoes. I just don’t know how to go about putting in a time skip

This is what I have for my first one week time skip

The next week was quite boring for Sid and Mitch, who had nothing very interesting to do with the rain still hitting the prairie full force. The cloud that had initially attacked the landscape had plenty more coming for the small village, and took its time to dump all of its contents. The two friends went outside and climbed a few trees, ran around the village and the prairie for the day, hung out in the rain every now and again, spent a few days with Daisha, but spent the rest of the time inside playing marbles or cards.

The next one needs to take place in the same chapter. (about four pages down in Microsoft Works Word Processor {10point font} this chapter takes place over two days) I feel like It’s too soon to do a time skip, but it has to be done to keep the story from being slightly too unrealistic (It is a fiction novel by the way) and will disenchant my audience. I’m not sure if I should do the same thing that I did above, or if there is another better method. Would it be too abrupt to read? Or do you think that it would be perfectly fine to do something like that.

admin answers:

This is one of those occasions where a great segue can save the day. Try a few different ones. If it sounds right to you, it will probably be acceptable to the reader.

And dont be afriad to skip around in time. Readers expect that sometimes. As long as your description is adequate, the reader will follow the time line.
